SAP Upgrades: Irritant or Stimulant?
SAP is ending standard support agreements for its SAP R/3 4.6C product next year. The immediate impact for companies staying on an older versions will be escalating support costs. Obviously any company would want to avoid additional costs but what’s the cost of upgrading? New licenses, disruption of operations, impact on processes; might it be better to wait?
With more than 4,500 SAP practitioners, we're the largest supplier of consultancy and implementation services. Not only escalating support costs should encourage companies to upgrade. There are other "carrots" such as:
Solid platform: SAP ERP 6.0 runs on SAP NetWeaver 7.0, a service-oriented architecture (SOA). This platform simplifies future upgrades with its roadmap of enhancement packs. SAP ERP 6.0 is the ‘go-to’ release providing mainstream maintenance until March 2015 and extended maintenance until 2017.
Consolidation: Many organisations have multiple instances of SAP in different countries or business units. An upgrade will consolidate those instances reducing errors and streamlining production.
New functionality: SAP ERP 6.0 provides more than 300 functional enhancements that can improve process efficiency. These include the new general ledger, employee and manager self-services, talent management and travel management.
Improved user interface: The new release brings with it a new look and feel, but the changes are more than skin deep. Changes simplify tasks, increase productivity and user satisfaction. Many common functions are performed within Microsoft applications such as Outlook.
These are just some of the reasons that we think makes SAP ERP 6.0 a compelling proposition. And we’ve got the skills to help you make the upgrade as efficient and painless as possible.
